Are students lazy when applying for jobs?

January 26, 2010

Recent feedback from employers is that many students are performing poorly at the application stage. Why is this?

Employers say

There is generally a lack of interest and care and attention.

  • Poor spelling.

New Year, Old Worries

January 24, 2010

Student blogger, Angela Wipperman

So, now what? The graduate programmes don’t want me, the job market is still pretty closed and I have no money to travel. I need a plan. January 20, 2010

If you’re interested in a career in the media, you’ll know that it’s a tough and competitive sector to get into and you’ll need all the help you can get!

So it’s just as well that the Careers Service has:

  • Its ever-popular Media Club, with monthly talks from media organisations, like the BBC and Ten Alps and a chance to meet employers and ask questions (e.g. about work experience opportunities…) and also
  • A brand new Media Club blog, where we’ll be posting all the latest news, events and opportunities, as well as details of forthcoming Media Club events. So bookmark it now at: http://manchestercareersmediaclub.wordpress.com
  • Our annual 2-day ‘Insight into Broadcasting and Journalism’ course in March, with input from key media players – date and venue to be confirmed. Keep an eye on our events calendar on the careers website and also the Media Club blog for more details.
